500 Club

Welcome to the web page of our web site dedicated to the 500 Club. The full title of the club is The Friends of Croston House Children's Home (Thailand) 500 Club. This was an idea that one of our friends in Chiang Mai recently suggested as a way of getting more people involved in the Foundation and persuading them to make small monthly donations, in this case 500 baht, hence the name, to offset the cost of running the Foundation, which is currently around 50,000 baht per month if we work on 30 children residing here with Khun Rosjana, the Foundation’s manager, being the sole salary earner. A full breakdown of the costs can be viewed HERE for PDF or HERE for WORD Doc.

In return for their financial support, members will receive the following:

A FREE birthday card.
A FREE Christmas/New Year greetings card.
A FREE calendar.
An automatic invitation to a monthly social event hosted by the Foundation with FREE food.
Automatic entry to a FREE monthly draw at the social event.

A membership card.

A quarterly e-newsletter with updates from the Foundation and photographs.
A specified discount at outlets that accept our member's membership cards.

The cards and calendars are all hand-made by the children here at Croston House Children’s Home and are therefore all originals and not mass-produced. We intend to host monthly social events on the last Sunday of the month, the first one being on Sunday, 25 January 2009, when we will launch the scheme with a BBQ here at the Foundation in Makrua Chae, Lamphun. The socials will be geared up to entertaining the children here and member’s own children are welcome to join in at no extra cost. We are also looking at other venues suitable for hosting children’s activities.

Those who choose to join the club will be asked to start making payments from 1 January 2009, preferably by standing order if possible, though we are looking at alternative ways that members can pay if that method does not suit them. I am in the process of asking businesses in Chiang Mai, Pattaya and elsewhere, if they would offer members of the club a discount on their goods and services on production of a valid membership card. A full list of the businesses, who wish to offer a discount to members, and the discount they offer, will be published and updated on this page and in the quarterly e-newsletters.

If you do the maths, you will realise that we need to find a hundred people willing to join the club in order to cover all of the expenses of running the Foundation. In return, we are trying to give members as much as possible without creating extra expense for ourselves, which would defeat the object. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how the 500 Club can be improved or run, please don’t hesitate to contact me either by e-mail at g_croston@yahoo.com or on 086-3857118.
